when i first bought this dress, i knew that people were going to say i look like a nurse or a lab tech. great. no one has ever said i dress like a designer. i have no idea how a designer should dress but i believe it has to do with celebration of one’s style. and of course, a dose of randomness. sometimes i think i deliberately dress differently so as to incite some form of reaction. normal, isn’t what i aim for in life.

sorry for the grainy picture

to protect my modesty, i wore my black&white striped t shirt under. i thought it added a cute contrast and obviously it incited comments such as ‘did you just escape from jail?’ somehow i have a nagging feeling that no matter what i wear now, i am going to get comments from just about anybody that knows me. great. the mustard and gray scarf casually thrown on adds a little colour to the otherwise monotone outfit.

when i came to this on The Sartorialist, i gasped. it has ALL the elements i like. the knit cape, the casual drape of scarf, booties (a long time obsession), tiered skirt and most important, a refreshing look.

it is so magical, its unbelievable.

to photograph diseased plants. honestly sometimes i think people don’t take me that seriously on first look because of the way i dress. i already look 16. and when i don’t dress like a sophisticated landscape architect, people think i am an intern. i don’t blame them but this teaches them, hopefully, a lesson not to associate perceived age with capability. can’t win it, so use a strange logic.

Princess Tina

these days i have this thing for polka dots. especially if they are not regularly polka-dotted. i usually tend to steer away from brown, because i detest it when people say hey you look like a twig. but i bought the skirt because it was flare and i was just in a flare mood that day. to balance the cuteness of polka dots, i threw on a denim vest i got from Cotton On at novena, which was a superb find because i have been looking around for ages. and lastly, anyone who read Monotones of Gray, knows that i love my Princess Tina brooch. i first saw it on Chocosho, fell in love with it and found it finally at Douglas and Hope on Brunswick Street in Melbourne.

i call this bag my essential for the starving artist look (S.A.L) no idea why. i just like the sound of it. anyone who buys shoes from charles and keith will know its from there. i usually refuse to buy bags from C&K because i have seen, honestly, at least 10 different people carry the same C&K bag (not this one though) on the train at peak hours. but i just had to get this bag because i was so keen on getting the S.A.L.

so be prepared to see this bag make a lot of appearances on this blog :)

love affairs (s) May 4, 2008

my love for mustard colour began in early 2007. it is one of the easiest colours to work with, unlike canary yellow which is too bright for a normal day out. it goes well with my other favourite colour, gray. or black. and for the strangest reason, i love mustard with checkered pants. the hunt for a pair of mustard stockings lasted for at least 6 months before i finally came upon it in a little dingy shop in kyoto. i was delirious with excitement (tiu and jiam can attest to that) because it was the exact shade i wanted. i wish i bought more because i haven’t seen any in singapore, yet. and i am not going to take the plane to japan again just to buy these stockings. i am insane. but not that crazy.

i love these pair of boots. they are a little borgues-inspired, with all the detailing and they are so comfortable to walk around in. they make me feel a little of the starving-artist style. i get weird looks when i go out in them but i love them still.
